It was a true pleasure to welcome a remarkable cohort of over 25 artists and practitioners during our second development week, which took place 19 -23 May at 26 Crowndale Road. Our ambition was to provide a focused time of play and discovery for each project, so participating writers could experience works progressing from early drafts to words spoken aloud and consider next steps with us.
In the theatre, we presented readings of The Ever-Changing Sea by Jordon Grant, The Bouncy by Joanne Gallagher and Bottled Up by Bart Stanislawek. Actor, Writer, Creative AD consultant Ben Wilson led a practical introduction to Audio Description, and in-progress reading of a new tv pilot co-written by Felix Uff and Huw Brentnall.
In Studio 1, Rinkoo Barpaga supported by Carl Miller undertook a first R&D of A Man With No Name, drawing on verbatim texts from refugees who have experienced forced migration, told through BSL and international sign languages.
Development week was made possible thanks to all who have contributed to our recent fundraising campaigns, including The Garrick Charitable Trust, Ramps on The Moon, Pillars of Support and Arts For impact donors, and all those who wish to remain anonymous.
