Joanne Gallagher

Joanne is a working-class Scottish writer with Irish heritage who started writing, in a serious way, in 2021. She was mentored by the Playwright's Studio Scotland to write her debut play THE BOUNCY. The play has won plaudits wherever it has been read. It was longlisted for The Women's Prize for Playwriting 2023 and shortlisted for Druid Debut's 2024. Joanne was nominated for Adopt a Playwright in both 2023 and 2024 and, as a result, Joanne is part of their cohort of supported writers. She wrote a short film script IN THE LONG GRASS in 2023 and Sky/Potboiler, having read her work, offered her the opportunity to work as a writer for the development stage of Ella Road's new TV Drama in late 2023. Her play BEASTS OF PREY made the shortlist for The David MacLennan Award 2024 at A Play, a Pie and a Pint in Scotland. THE END OF ALL FLESH, a scalding pressure cooker, is Joanne’s latest play; written in Spring 2025, it has already gained interest from major theatres.

Joanne writes whip-smart plays that aim to get the Glasgow schemes to the theatre and to claim it as their own. Her writing has the power of a shotgun, and the lyricism of a poet.
