in development
‘The largest organism in the world has been found underneath the paving slabs and roads of Eastleigh. It’s called Armillaria Ostoyae or Honey Fungus, and it connects everything together…’
HONEY FUNGUS is the new work-in-development by devising theatre company Bunkum Ensemble. Co-created through improvisations between physical performers and musicians, this non-verbal piece of storytelling explores nature, connection, relationships and a huge fungus that lives underneath our feet.
TPE is thrilled to be supporting Artistic Director Jack Parris and the Bunkum Ensemble throughout the R&D and onwards development.
Jack Parris comments:
We are so excited to be starting work on this ambitious new project in collaboration with TPE. Over three weeks we'll be developing a making process that encourages interdisciplinary play between musicians and performers, and that has co-creation with communities running throughout the process with our Open R&D sessions. It's the start of a piece of work which will be silly, joyous and horrific in equal measure and will be born out of spontaneous play.
HONEY FUNGUS R&D will take place thanks to a residency supported by The Point, Eastleigh, together with support from Brighton People's Theatre, Brighton Dome and Arts Council England.
Following the completion of a first R&D this autumn, Open Rehearsals will take place in February 2025 – please check back for further details.
“A really special treat and to be part of the early creative process, especially to have live musicians, was fantastic.”
“Regardless of your previous theatrical experience everyone was made to feel a valued part of the project.”
“I was very impressed with the delivery of the entire project, it was very well organised, accessible and user friendly.”
