Simon Startin in BACCHAE at the National Theatre

October 3, 2025
Last week, Bacchae opened at the National Theatre - starring Simon Startin as Tireseus.

Nima Taleghani's new version of Euripides' timeless tragedy is Indhu Rubasingham's first production as Director of the National Theatre. With music by DJ Walde, and choreography by Kate Prince of Zoo Nation - this Bacchae is bold, visceral and unlike anything seen before.

The women of the Bacchae arrive in Thebes. Fierce and unstoppable, they are a chorus of wild energy ready to shake the city to its core — and liberate its women.

But their god Dionysos has his own reckoning. In a showdown with his cousin, King Pentheus, family loyalty, political power and human desire are pushed to breaking point.

Simon is represented by The Production Exchange as an Actor, and is also a Trustee.
