Potts – aka Luke Potter – is a composer, musical director, and performer based in Bristol. He specialises in theatre and live music. Potts was the composer and musical director on The Worst Witch, which won an Oliver Award for ‘Best Family Show’ in 2020.
Potts’ work is driven by the excitement he experiences when music and narrative first collide – the moment you realise that the relationship has begun and something magical is happening. He is passionate about being involved within the inception and development of new work; being an integral part of the devising process, by composing new music that enlivens the narrative – lifting an idea or script off the page and onto the stage. Since 2014, Potts has been fortunate to work with some exciting Bristol based theatre companies and learnt on the job from innovators, such as Sally Cookson and Benji Bower. He has also worked with Hal Chambers and Theresa Heskins. Credits include being Composer & Musical Director on The Ballad of Maria Marten (Eastern Angles) – currently on its UK Tour – and Composer, Musical Director, and Sound Designer on The Worst Witch (Royal & Derngate, Vaudeville Theatre, Kenny Wax, Novel Theatre & Nica Burns), which toured the UK in 2018 before transferring to the West End in 2019. Potts also performs visibly on stage as a musician/ensemble member, for which he is often actively required to engage within the narrative and respond to the action. These credits include Peter Pan (National Theatre & Troubadour White City Theatre), in which he was also Associate MD, La Strada (The Other Palace & UK Tour), Hetty Feather (UK & International Tour), and To Kill a Mockingbird (Regents Park Open Air Theatre UK Tour).
