Abi is an award winning freelance director with over 25 years of professional experience. In that time she has directed all over the UK and internationally, enjoying long term collaborations with the Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds, Theatre by the Lake, Finborough and Gonzo Moose Theatre Company amongst others. Her distinctive, high energy, playful productions are a result of the twin strands of her theatre background: a love of detailed text work and a love of improvisation and clowning. At the heart of every show she creates is the actor/audience relationship, ideally under shared light conditions with no fourth wall.
Most recently, she directed Grimm and Grimmer for the Drum Theatre, Plymouth Christmas 2021. Prior to this was Harpy, a new play written for Su Pollard which has toured the UK, straddling lockdowns. Back in 2019 she directed The Snow Queen, the multi OFFIE award nominated family Christmas show at The Park Theatre, London, including Best Director. Jack and the Beanstalk for the Mercury Theatre, Colchester and a double bill of Macbeth and Much Ado About Nothing for Merely Theatre were other recent successes. Her production of Pride and Prejudice for Two Actors was a big hit in South Korea in 2019 and brought back in 2020, having co-created it way back in 2013, then seeing it through three UK tours and a run in Jermyn Street Theatre in the West End. Abigail was Associate Director at the beautiful Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds from 2008-11 where in addition to directing many plays, she took part in the Restoring the Repertoire project exploring eighteenth century plays for contemporary performance. |
